The Normalisation of CBD Products

CBD Coffee on table
There once was a time when CBD was synonymous with cannabis — at least for a lot of people. Now, as consumers are gaining a better understanding of the difference between this phytocannabinoid and THC — the psychoactive phytocannabinoid found in cannabis, acceptance around CBD’s use is growing, as is its popularity.

The Cannabis Trades Association has estimated that the number of British consumers using CBD products has quadrupled over the past two years to a staggering half a million. With these soaring figures, it’s clear that the stigma around cannabis isn’t damaging CBD’s reputation to anywhere near the same extent as before.

The popularisation of CBD

So, what’s to thank for the popularisation of CBD? Well, legislative changes around the world, but particularly in the US, have pushed CBD further into the media spotlight — and to a generally positive reaction. CBD is now legal in all 50 of the United States as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC (although some states still require you to have a prescription to buy the substance). And while CBD has no psychoactive properties, for many this represents a positive step towards the legalisation and normalisation of cannabis use — which has its own strong entourage of advocates.

CBD is completely legal here in the UK, too, and because high quality CBD oil is a safe and versatile ingredient to consume, even those who had little interest in the prohibited plant have become curious to try this derived substance. Astoundingly, people who were once completely opposed to the legalisation of marijuana are turning to CBD to help relieve symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, depression, and arthritis. As such, a clear gap in the market has emerged for new and innovative ways to consume CBD and meet this growing demand.

The CBD market

As CBD is relatively tasteless, it can be added to beverages and edibles in a range of wonderful flavours. Drinking beverages infused with CBD oil, such as CBD coffee or coffee blends, is probably the most culturally appropriate form of consumption for those concerned with discretion. This being said, edibles are soaring in popularity as product development ramps up and consumer options grow. Now that we have CBD infused dark chocolate, ice cream, and a wide range of snacks, cannabidiol is establishing itself in the public eye as another exciting ingredient to try — a huge success for the CBD market.

As innovators race to meet the surge in demand, CBD products have become more widespread and accessible — helping to normalise the hemp derivative even further. The phytocannabinoid is now so popular that the UK (and particularly London) is seeing specialised ‘CBD cafes’ set up shop, offering CBD infused lattes and sweet treats to eager customers keen to try a new coffee shop experience. Like with any new product, the novelty of CBD will certainly play a role in its current success. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that it isn’t here to stay. Unlike other products that have quickly become ‘trendy’ and then dropped off the map, cannabidiol has scientifically evidenced health benefits that will keep customers coming back for more.

Choose a reputable CBD supplier

It’s important to note that while CBD oil is safe and can be legally sold in the UK, there’s no guarantee that every product is high quality or that it will provide you with certain health benefits. This is why it’s important to ensure you’re purchasing CBD products from a reputable supplier, such as Cheerful Buddha, whose products are closely monitored and regulated.
